This really gets my goat, when people feel the need to correct me and tell me I'm pernoucing the name wrong just cause I like using the english names of characters, groups and things on animes. Just cause I'm using the english way of saying the name doesn't mean I'm pernoucing it wrong. Cause I'm not! I'm just saying the name how the english version says it. My sister always feels the need to correct me everytime I call something on an anime by it's english name.
It gets on my nerves! Like on Naruto that group that Itachi's a member of I pernouce it the way the english version does and she corrects me and says,"Oh, did you mean...(Japanese pernoucing)." I really hate that. She says,"The english version always pernouces things wrong." They do not! That's just there version of pernoucing things. The japanese version has there way, and the english version has there's.

It's good that you're standing up to your sister. She has absolutely no right trying to force you to use Japanese names when you don't want to.Ask her how she'd feel if people started trying to force her to use English names all the time, and how she'd feel if people tried to get her to believe that "English does it better than Japanese".
People really need to learn to let others have the freedom to use English names if they want to. Not everyone is going to react kindly being ordered to only use Japanese names.

I totally agree. People have the right to choose who they wish. I will only use English names. I prefer it. And I don't care how many people tell me to use the Japanese. I am not Japanese. I watched the show in the English, and I'll keep it that way. All I will do is say 'I watch the English and prefer the English. It's my story, my rpg characters, if you wish to have the characters in Japanese, do it yourself. This is my writing and my style. I write for myself'
One Eyed is right. I'm sure your sister would not like the idea of having to be forced to do the story the way others want it to be done. If she did, then it's no longer her story

Oh, I wasn't talking about fanfiction, I was talking about when I talk about anime with her in person, she corrects me when I use the english names.

It wouldn't matter if it's fanfiction, rpgs or even general discussion.
She should know that you will use what you want. Perhaps you should start correcting her on the names to English....when she says it in Japanese start saying 'no it's this name' that's the name for English' and explain you're English not Japanese. I watched the show in English language so I will speak in the English language. I speak the English words all the time and if someone was to correct me, which they haven't, I would say "don't like me speaking of the English names then let's not chat anime. I will use English names and that's not changing. I prefer the English. You know the names in English so you call them what you want and I'll call them what I want".
But then again, perhaps that may be too childish....but whatever, I can speak my mind when provoked and telling me I would have to say the words in Japanese would really provoke me...but then again I would say 'what's her/his name again' and keep saying that until they would get the hint and when they would probably say 'so and so' I would probably put 'oh right. I have a hard time remembering Japanese names since I'm English and I have a hard time pronouncing Japanese names'

I did and she kept on going on about how she was right and I was wrong, and pretty soon she got mad at me.

Well then that means that person doesn't respect your views on the anime. I mean what if you liked an anime and you never knew the original version? People should respect other people's views. When I'm in general discussion of Sailor Moon to my online chat friends, I use the names I like best, they use the names they like best and we never have a clash of names because we respect each other's views.
If it weren't for the internet I would not know the true form of Sailor Moon that Sailor Uranus and Neptune were lesbians or any of the other information that was found for differences.

Go ahead and keep using the English names, and just ignore your sister when she tries to force you to use Japanese names. If you keep ignoring her, soon she'll stop and leave you alone. After all,she isn't you.
Let her get mad at you;it just shows how childish she's being. If she gets mad just because you won't use Japanese names, then she needs to grow up.

I have an older brother and in many cases, I appear to be the older sibling. Most times acting the older one goes unnotice, but at least the pleasure is there for yourself to know you are being the mature one.
So go ahead and use what you prefer. I do and no one will tell me differently. And I'm speaking for fanfiction, rpgs and talk in general. It applies to ALL forms of communication

i mix the english and the japanese names together. i may use minako instead of mina for that character and juse Lita instead of her japanese name -i can never remember it- no one should ever get after you for how you wish to say something, especially if that was how you learned in the first place. i had a come move down from new york city to my town in north carolina. pretty much every time i opened my mouth she would say that those were words or that thats not how to say it. i finally got up in her face and was like ' i may say things like ya'll, but at least i have manners, obviously your parents forgot how to teach that." and then she was pretty much banished from the table since i was the only friend she had and everyone else speaks the same way i do and were tired of her stuff. the point is, speak how you want, not how someone else preseves you to speak.
