Like any normal person its perfectly normal to just let it go all out into the open, but sometimes if you're like me its better to put it down on words on a computer. So my little vent/ rant today concerns my dear mother-in-law.
My husband is in the military, and he's still deciding if this is what he want to do with the rest of his life. So its a desicion he's going back and forth on. I told him its up to him, I'll support him with whatever descicion he makes. Well he called his mom cuz apparently his mom is writing a story about him to be put in "Leathernecks" magazine(marine corps magazine) and to be put in the base newspaper calling it "following your dream". It all started when she found an old picture of luke(hubby) when he was like 3 wearing a marine shirt now he's a marine. She wrote this whole story summing up his 2 years of the marines in a short one page deal. The reason for his phone call pertained that he wanted to edit out somethings that was written in the story and to talk to her about his desicion of re-enlistment at the end of his 4 years.
Her current belief is that I'M THE REASON why he wants to get out, Luke has explained to her millions of times that the marines may just not be for him. But she's hellbent on the fact that I'm the reason and that its not fair that Luke is working two jobs and not going to school, whereas i'm attending AMU(American Military University) full-time and working full time. She's told me that I'm the one that should be working 2 jobs, just because luke's job with the military is so stressful, along with the fact that I'm the one that should be cooking, cleaning, taking care of the house and my cat and kids whenever I have them. That I should be the one to get up in the middle of the night every time the baby is crying or something like that, that luke should just be able to sit around and do nothing all day. The crappy part about this is that this is how he was raised that the woman should be the one to do everything around the house. And that Luke shouldn't be entitled to do anything of the sort. Along with the news of his re-enlistment he told her that I'm planning on joining the US Air Force to become an officer. She didn't like that either.
She also believes that me joining the air force is another reason why luke is debating his re-enlistment. Did I mention that she had no enthusiasm for this idea. I got the "yeah ok, so whats your point" attitude from this. Luke's mom was really cool, and really nice back when Luke and I were dating because I was the trophy wife. I was on the National Honor Society, I was captain of the flutes for marching band, i had a job, i had a nice car, all the great things you could want(yes i'm bragging a little) His parents loved me, then the second Luke was sworn into the Marines all of that changed.I suddenly became "that girl luke's seeing" not dating just seeing. What made it better is when Luke graduated from boot camp in 2007, he went out bought me a ring(which strangely enough looked like Usagi's engagement ring) and proposed to me at work. We went back to his parents house to tell his family the great news and they basically sunk our happy little ship. Both his mom and dad sat there and kept asking if luke was sure that i'm the one. And that i'm not wife material. Again asking him over and over and eventually telling him to not marry me because "i'm too proper" WTF?!?!?!?
She loves carting Luke around with her just so she could show him off. Luke had asked her would she do the same for me with my fancy air force officer uniform she said probably not just cuz her(my) uniform won't look as good as yours(his). When I go with them, she proudly says looking at luke "this is my son, the marine, his name is luke. And thats his girl. his wife, or my favorite, just rachel." then she basically has him flirting around with the other girls that come up to him.
Everytime we come home I always happen to look at their calendar only to notice that it always says Luke comes home. I know i'm not supposed to care what my mother-in-law says I just officially can't stand the way she looks down on me. Whats worse is that she treats all of us (the 3 daughter-in-laws this way, she has 3 sons) and all of us get treated this way. She will never call us her daughter-in-laws or her son's wives we're just Elizabeth, Leah and Rachel. I just think its crap!
