I think I've reached my limits about some things pertaining to Sailor Moon.
I respect the fact that people like the original version and in some ways I slightly like the original version too. But I feel it has gotten too far. I mean come on people the dubbed version was CREATED for children, not teens. We all watched the dubbed version and you liked it then and that happened before we were introduced to the net. So why can't you people just respect the dubbed version for what it was? And it was a version generated to North American children under the age 12. It wasn't the dubbers fault that adults began to like it.
But here's another thing that keeps happening, many NA people don't even respect that Sailor Moon was dubbed in other languages either. German, Mexian etc. Why does the English get picked out?
Do you know all this arguing about which version is better is actually what nearly lost my love for Sailor Moon in the first place. Yeah I almost lost it. Just recently I wrote a SM one-shot. It was the first time 5 years I wrote anything for Sailor Moon. And just before joining this forum, I was at point where I was going to wipe Sailor Moon out forever. But thanks to Lady Miki, One Eyed Warrior and dacapo that all changed. They are the first three people in five years to respect my views on Sailor Moon.
You never see this much arguing between other animes that are dubbed in English so why is Sailor Moon pegged out?
Why can't people just respect and accept for English Sailor Moon for what it was? It was DUBBED in 1995. And I'm sure there was dubbing protocols the dubbers had to follow. North America is A LOT different than Japan. What we view as PG-13 or even 14+, Japan views it as PG.
Parents in NA try and cuddle their young teens, Japan doesn't. Japan doesn't have a modesty issue either for their young teens. In Japan did you know women are still slightly ruled by their husbands? I know this because someone I went to school is married to a woman out there and I met her and her mother and I was shocked when my father would invite them into the house and they would not follow until my Dad walked in first.
I'm just sick and tired of hearing all about 'the original is better', 'I prefer the original', 'dubbed sucks' etc. As I said above, I slightly like the original version but it's only about 2%. I respect and like the dubbed for what it was. A toon for children. Would you allow your 5 year old child to watch the original version or the dubbed version? I wouldn't even allow my children to watch any original versions until they were teens.
Here's another thing people are always forgetting. What we watch today is what will inpact on our children in the future. You all realize there are more crimes now then there was 15 years ago? And do you know where all that violence came from? Cartoons/Anime! There are no morals to stories anymore. No hidden meanings for children to find. Toons should be a learning experience on how to teach on doing the right thing. But all it's teaching now to our 5 year olds is sex, violence and drugs.
In this day and age, I'm not even sure I want a child anymore because cartoons have been corrupted. They cloud the child's mind. And don't get me started on video games. I would rather have my children watch original anime than play today's video games. And I'm going to leave it at that.
Now for people who are against my pleas and my ranting, just ignore my comments. I don't really want to continue hearing how great the original is and why it's better. If anyone wants to comment on this, that's fine, but please don't start an argument. That's not what this thread is for. It's for people to see how annoyed I am.
Thank you.
Oh and if anyone is wondering. I am a fan of the dubbed and I will use the dub names if I want. It's not that I dislike the original names, but it's so hard for me to read a story with using original names that I can not pronounce or have a hard time spelling.
And if you are thinking that I'm pegging out Sailor Moon myself, you're wrong. I dislike all original work that requires sutitles and that's not just for Japanese. That also includes, French, Italian, Chinese, Mexican....ALL original work. And the reason for that is because my eyes can not follow the subtitles. The wording moves too fast for me to read. So for me to know what the scene is about I have to rewatch it like 10 times each scene to understand it. So how can a person learn to enjoy originals when they have to watch like 10 times to know what it was about.
I even have a hard time when they put subtitles in movies and TV shows to present different languages. In some movies and TV shows, I have to pause to see what is read and then continue or watching, that is if I'm by myself.
